Il Fontanile
for Sale
A villa of the 1800s and its farmhouse — 1.042 sqm of living space, 416 sqm of barns and cellars, within five hectares of secular park facing Lake Endine.
— THE STORY
A house built around its own water spring.
Il Fontanile takes its name from the fonte — the living spring that rises within its own walls and has never stopped running. It still surfaces in the cellar of the farmhouse, channelled long ago into a system that runs through the entire estate: fountains and basins, a small waterfall, a canal, and a stream that crosses the park before reaching the lake. The same water irrigates the fields and serves the animals.
The water is potable and authorised for domestic use: colourless, odourless and without taste, with notable mineral qualities. Very few estates of this kind own their own water.
The villa itself dates from the mid-nineteenth century, built when the prominent families of Bergamo established their summer residences along these secluded waters. Known locally as Villa Crescenzi, it belonged to a family whose most illustrious member was Professor Giulio Crescenzi, a surgeon who directed the Italian Hospital in Alexandria, Egypt.
Uninhabited for many years, the estate has settled into an extraordinary stillness — a rare combination of history, living water, lakeside setting and complete seclusion between the mountains and the lake.
